Home-made Brown Bread

Ingredients

  • 300g brown bread flour
  • 1 sachet (10g) yeast
  • 200ml tepid water
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • extra flour for dusting
Method
  1. pour the flour onto a clean dry surface
  2. make a little well in the centre of the flour
  3. pour the yeast, salt and sugar and half the water into the well
  4. mix the well ingredients with a folk
  5. mix some of the flour into the well slowly
  6. once all the water and flour is mixed add the remaining water
  7. knead the dough for 5min
  8. Prove (leave covered in a bowl) for 30min
  9. once doubled in size, knock out the air (just knock the dough around a bit)
  10. Leave covered to prove again for 30 min
  11. place on a floured baking tray and bake at 180 degrees for about 30min
  12. The bread is done when it sounds hollow when you tap the bottom
